Travel Insurance FAQs

Can I cancel my trip for any reason and be reimbursed?
Yes! If you purchase coverage with the Cancel For Any Reason option within 21 days of initial trip payment you can receive reimbursement up to 75% of pre-paid non-refundable payments or deposits. This innovative coverage option makes it easy for you to accommodate last-minute travel changes of any kind.

Can I cancel for work reasons and be reimbursed?
Yes! If you purchase coverage with the Cancel For Work Reasons option within 21 days of initial trip payment.

What does it mean when you say that these plans provide primary coverage?
Some travel insurance plans pay you only after any other coverage you may have (such as medical, home owners insurance, etc.) is exhausted. The Advantage and Elite Travel insurance plans available through Travel Guard provide primary coverage. They pay first so you don't have to worry about what other insurance coverage that you may have.

What are the covered reasons for Trip Cancellation?
Unforeseen events for Trip Cancellations are described in the Description of Coverage. Click the links to review the Description of Coverage for Travel Guard Advantage program and Travel Guard Elite program.

What is the pre-existing condition exclusion waiver and how can I obtain it?
If insurance is purchased within 21 days of initial booking, the Pre-Existing Medical Condition Exclusion will be waived. This is applicable to all coverages contained in the plan that the pre-existing exclusion would apply to. You must be medically able to travel when you pay your plan cost.

Does the policy provide financial default coverage in the event of a supplier bankruptcy?
The Travel Guard Advantage and Travel Guard Advantage Elite travel insurance plans can provide coverage for loss due to the financial default that results in total cessation of operations due to insolvency of an airline, tour company, or cruise line IF: a) the plan is purchased within 21 days of the initial trip deposit, AND b) The financial default occurs no less than 14 days AFTER the plan purchase.

If these criteria are met, travelers who have purchased one of these plans can have coverage for that financial default. (Please note financial default is not covered for all suppliers, and a TravelStore agent can advise you further if a particular company is excluded when you are purchasing the coverage.)

Additionally, coverage is not provided for loss due to the financial default of any person, organization, agency or firm from whom you purchase travel arrangements supplied by others.

Would my children or grandchildren be covered if they are traveling with me but aren't in the same room or cabin as me?
Yes. Children 16 and under traveling with insured adults are covered, even when in separate accommodations.

What happens if someone not traveling with me becomes ill or passes away? Is this covered?
An illness or death of a family member not traveling with you may be considered a covered reason for Trip Cancellation or Trip Interruption. The definition of family member and explanation of coverage is included in the Description of Coverage. Don't I already have coverage?
Even frequent travelers can be misinformed about travel, travel insurance coverage and how to handle unexpected travel problems. Preparing for a trip should include having coverage for unfortunate occurrences that threaten to interfere with even the best-laid plans. Think you're covered? Test your knowledge of some common travel misconceptions.

True or False: Travel insurance isn't necessary; it just duplicates coverage I already have.
False! Having excellent medical, auto, and home insurance does not always guarantee coverage when you travel. Also remember that while some travel insurance coverage may be included with certain credit cards, there is very little recourse, other than travel insurance, that will reimburse when travelers need to cancel or interrupt a trip if they or a close family member becomes ill.

True or False: Travel suppliers always refund pre-paid expenses if travelers have to cancel their trip due a hurricane, blizzard, or natural disaster.
False! There is no legal obligation for airlines, cruise lines, hotels and tour operators to reimburse nonrefundable deposits or pre-payments if travelers are forced to cancel their trips due to hurricanes, blizzards, or other natural disasters.

True or False: Airlines reimburse you if personal possessions are lost, damaged or delayed while in an airport.
False! Airlines are required to reimburse passengers for lost or damaged bags while in their possession. However, since both airlines and the T.S.A. now handle baggage, it has become more difficult to determine who is liable when it comes to lost or stolen luggage.
